Summer Session 3

Overview: July 21 - August 1, 2025

Full Day: 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

List of 2 items.

  • Counselors in Training - Returning Leaders

    Grade: 8-10
    Cost: $750
    Schedule: 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Prerequisite for Session 3: Returning CITs Only. During this session, we are opening the program to young leaders who have been through at least 1 CIT session. Attendance from any CIT session from any summer is acceptable.
The CIT program will provide a hands-on opportunity to develop a variety of skills necessary for future employment as a camp counselor and for skills that will help them work with children. CITs will have a well-structured yet flexible series of workshops where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the different aspects of being a camp counselor and working with children. CITs will learn valuable leadership and communications skills and have the opportunity to participate in a self-motivated program designed around their ambitions to work towards their goal of being a camp counselor. CITs will develop the skills by participating in swimming, games, field trips, first aid and child safety as well as leadership and child psychology courses. Our goal is to give young people the opportunity to work under a qualified director and to begin to learn and understand the demands and responsibilities of a camp counselor’s job. Campers will look to CITs as leaders and role models, therefore, high standards of conduct, attitude and good judgment are expected at all times while working with campers.

CIT’s will attend field trips with the Little Owls Campers. They will also go on 1 CIT-only field trip each session.

CITs must be mature, have good listening skills, and be able to follow directions. Any camper who is interested in enrolling in the CIT program (even returning campers) must  submit a teacher recommendation form which can also be found in registration confirmation.   Please note: Current Athenian students do NOT need to submit a teacher recommendation as we are able to go directly to faculty to discuss students.

Due to the limited spots available for this program, only full session enrollment is available.
CITs will constantly be under review and will advance as they gain understanding of how each camp functions and can show the ability to complete tasks as assigned by the directors and counselors. All CITs are required to participate in pool-time activities.

The trend with Camp Counselors is that they return every summer, leaving few employment opportunities for those coming up the ranks. Therefore, completion of the Counselor in Training program does not guarantee a job with The Athenian School's summer program but, every effort is made to assist those who successfully complete the program in finding a job.

  • Little Owls: Summer Olympics

    Grade: 1-5
    Cost: $1100
    Description:

Little Owls is one of our most popular summer camps– simply put, it is a hybrid of Sports Camp and Summit Seekers – campers will move through the day in small “owl cohorts” with an assigned color and team of Counselors and Counselors-in-Training (CITs). The morning will be focused on sports and games, after lunch will be focused on artistic craft activities, and the day will end with open pool time for everyone.  Some of our favorite Little Owls activities are our cardboard boat design challenge, egg-drop challenge, camp carnival and Olympics games day. Lunch is at 12 PM and is included in the cost of registration.

There will be one “on-campus experience” on the first Friday of the session, and one off-campus field trip on the second Friday of the session. Please note, if you sign-up and do not wish to attend the field trips, your camper will have a shortened week, Monday-Thursday, on weeks where we have an off-campus field trip. More info on exact field trip details will be provided closer to camp. On off-campus field trip days, you will need to pack lunch for your child.

Campers can add breakfast, group swim lessons during camp hours (one instructor with two students) or private one-on-one swim lessons after camp hours, extended care and bus transportation for an additional fee.
